This is an elegant scarf pin, solid sterling silver 925 marked and tested with 10k gold accents, handmade in Ireland and hallmarked at the Assay Office in Dublin Castle. This brooch is modeled on the original Tara Brooch, now displayed in the National Museum of Ireland in Dublin. The Tara brooch was discovered at Laytown, County Meath in August of 1850. The style and workmanship of the Tara brooch are of an early Celtic type. Believed to date back to around 700AD, the Tara Brooch is the most impressive Irish brooch ever discovered. It is now recognized as one of the most important works of early Christian Irish Insular art. This large size brooch measures approx. 1.9 inch x 1.2 inch, and weights 7.6 grams in the store's scale. This Penannular Brooch, Celtic knot style, two - tone, has several hallmarks, Irish Assay Office, Dublin Town mark, letter G (circa 1992) and J.P.K.
