New York Native, bi-weekly gay newspaper magazine

November 29, 1993, Issue 554

Particularly rare since these were normally thrown away and not kept.

The New York Native (NYN) was a bi-weekly newspaper directed towards gay men and lesbians which began publication in New York City in December of 1980. Through the years it became recognized as one of the most influential gay publications in America, widely respected for the quality of its news and cultural reporting. In 1984 it claimed a readership of 80,000. Its editors have included Brett Averill and Patrick Merla. The magazine was published by That New Magazine, Inc. which also published Christopher Street magazine. The Native folded in 1997.
