Blood Red and Black Pottery "Witness Crock" Luminair from Lufkin Pottery in the famous pottery center of Seagrove, NC.
The "crack" in the ruffle is a normal part of the form, which originally came with a scroll and candle. The broken heart and scars, scrapes and dents on one side of the crock contrast with the perfection of the other side.
Signed on the bottom. Reads:"SLB + 2016" "Lufkin Pottery" "Seagrove" "NC" "Witness Crock" (the glaze covered half of the k)
SLB is for Sally Lufkin, the potter, and she calls this color combination Black Cherry. You cannot currently buy this shape in this color on her website, but she does have a one in this color and one in this shape. If she were selling one like this currently, it would be $36. Also, she totally should, because I think this is the best combination of color and form of all her witness crocks.
Apart from the cracks that are supposed to be there, this looks to be damage free. Please see photos for best details.
